BACK IN THE RING!

Back in the ring!

Polana`s Whitelace Yoyo will be 6 years old in July.  He started his show career when he was a puppy and has been very successful in the ring.    After many Best in Shows, winning 2 Cotons specialties, in the fall 2006, we decided it was time to take a rest.

A few months ago, I was attentively observing him. He is such a great dog that I decided to do give him another opportunity to strut his stuff in the ring.  We entered Yoyo in fun match.  You should have seen him, head up, the sparkle in his eyes, drawing everyones` attention.  He was floating in the ring.  So I decided to enter him in a few CKC shows.

April 5, 2008.  We are ready.  Yoyo is with me, happy to be back in the show ring.  He is the only Coton.  So, to get some points, he needed a placement in the Group.  The Coton breed is part of the Toy group, a very strong and competitive group.  He easily won the breed (he was the only Coton…).  Now, on to the group. 13 breeds were represented  and  most of the exhibitors were professional handlers.  And here we are, Yoyo, the Coton and me coming from out of no where.  To our surprise, he was awarded second place!

Day 2.  Without surprise, Yoyo won the breed (don’t forget, he is the only Coton..).  We are back in the group.  The judge didn’t look at us at all.  I was not surprised.  A new breed, an unknown handler against big winners and professional handlers…  But, I was suddenly pointed by the judge to go to first place position!  And yes, Yoyo took the first place for the group!  It was an indescribable moment for me….

Following this first weekend in the CKC circuit; Yoyo won 7 points and his major.  We needed 3 more points to get his CKC championship.

Two weekends later, we were back in another CKC show.   First day, he got a group 3 and with that, he had enough points to get his championship.  And, the second day, another group 3!  Yoyo is now a CKC champion.

You can understand how proud I am of Yoyo!  We are a great team, him and me.  In the ring, he becomes another dog, head up, the tail moving, he runs in front of me.   But, it is with me that he performs. Of course, he is my dog, or from his point of view, I  am his partner!

When I decided to show him, I knew he was a very nice Coton and that he was a good representative of the breed.  When a new breed is introduced in the ring, it is important for the judges to be able to see good specimens.  During those 2 weekends, one of the judges requested more information while another was ready to organize with me a judges` seminar for the breed.

I will continue to show Yoyo this year in the Maritimes.  It will be interesting to see how he will do.  I will let you know for sure…….
